Does anyone know if everything pretty much shuts done on Nov. 1 because of the holiday?

We've been in Italy a couple of times on Nov. 1 and didn't notice that anything was really shut down. I had the same concerns because when I lived in Madrid years and years ago, Nov. 1 was a huge holiday and Halloween night seemed like the party of the year.

This is one travel day when it makes sense to reserve your seat a few days ahead. Trains will be crowded since Italians will travel the length of the country to be with family that day.
