Italian train discounts?

Trains are not aeroplanes ^_^ Often enought people here in italy doesn't even bother with reservations, that's why there are no such dicounts. Besides, tickets are valid for 2 months. If you do not catch your train (except Eurostars) all you lose is the 3 euro booking fee, so most people just do noth bother about discounts and all. There are, from time to time, special offers (last year it was one week-end per month the Intercity fare was reduced to 10 euro no matter where you went), but these offers are usually in connection woth some event (exibitions and the like). Check out www.trenitalia.it for special offers, but after all they are not that "special" for most people.
