Italian Riviera or Eze

We will be on a cruise that stops in Monaco in Sept. I was wondering if anyone has driven to the Italian Riveria (San Remo and some of those towns. Also, we were thinking about going to Eze on the Fr. Riviera and maybe some of the towns around there. We have been to Nice and other places on the Med., but have not been in land, so I was wondering if there were any neat villages around Eze. Would both Eze and the Italian Riviera be doable by car for a day trip.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Elsa

Elsa,
I think you could do both in one day.

Eze is only a small town but it has a beautiful tropical garden that is really worth a visit.

The Italian Riviera is also very beautiful and San Remo is only 50 km away from Monaco. Especially the atmoshpere is totally different from the French Riviera. Don't forget to stop in Menton, the last seaside resort before the French/Italian border.

If you want to stay more inland in France, Grasse (where the perfume is made) could be an option.

I don't know that you can comfortably combine Eze and the Italian towns. Both are nice choices. You could also go to La Turbie, which has an ancient roman monument celebrating the extension of the empire in that area. There is no town comparable to Eze in the area.
You will need a car to get to Eze comfortably but you can get to Italy eqasily by bus or train, if this is a consideration.
Eze may be served by local bus from Monaco. I agree with that to go to both Eze village and Italian Riviera may be too much. I'd opt for Eze as it is quite beautiful. From Eze village, you can likely catch a bus to either Cap St. Jean Ferrat (do see the Rothschild Estate) or St. Paul de Vence. All I've listed are awesome!
Ellen

I was glad to see Ellen mention the Rothschild estate. Just returned from this area 10 days ago and saw the estate for the first time. The gardens and home are incredible. If visiting, stop in the tea room! There is also a perfume factory in Eze, so if you are there, visiting Grasse is unnecessary.
St. Paul de Vence is wonderful, and if you like modern art, do not miss the Fondation Maeght (sp?) - great stuff!
