Italian Riviera

Does anyone have any great ideas on where to stay during a 5-day visit to the Italian Riviera in June?

Would recommend Santa Margherita Ligure, it's a lovely port town with lots of shops, yachts in the harbour, nice waterfront area to walk along. We stayed at the Hotel Fiorina, about 5 min walk from the waterfront, 3 star, very nice, 66 Euro for double room in March.
Kay

Hi,
I would recommend you the 5 terre: 5 tiny villages , very peculiar and far from the madding coast of touristical places (portofino etc..)
ciao
Laura

Wife and I spent 5 days doing what both Kay and Laura recommend in March. It was fantastic. Stayed at the Hotel Jolanda in SML and Hotel Pasquale (sp?) in Monterosso.

Better book now for this June though.

I agree & disagree with previous poster re: 5 terre. The Cinque Terre villages are quite charming & scenic. However due to rapidly rising popularity, the 'madding crowds' are becoming more aware of this place. I'd still recommend one of these towns as an option, particularly if you won't have a car and will be relying on train or boat to get around.

SML is larger than CT and another great choice. If you do want to get from Santa Margherita Ligure to any of the CT towns, it's about a 1hr-15min ride on local train.

Another vote for Santa Margherita Ligure. You can train to the farthest of the Cinque Terre villages in one hour. You can also take a 10-15 boat ride to Portofino. I recommend you boat in and bus out for different perspectives. There are lots of restaurant choices in SML. If there on a Saturday you should have a dinner reservation. This is a popular resort for the Italians.
