Chris,

I'm a budget traveler and my last trip was solo. I was very happy at Hotel Giardino Rome **. Back in 2005, my single room was $95E/nt in Sept. Great location for walking everywhere. Only the Vatican was far. Typical breakfast, double-paned windows make sleeping quiet. Extremely friendly and helpful owner, Katy. Answer e mails promptly.

kfusto, you're right. I should have said I also moved to Italy for the food, because it's true.

Chris, I also suggest the Michelin-recommended Pensione Barrett, very well located in the historic center and affordable.
