It’s time for the alpfahrt.... the cows are coming home
The cows are coming down from the alps. This particular cow was photographed on Saturday.
The below photos were all taken on Saturday at the foot of the Mythen between Schwyz and Einsiedeln, Switzerland,

Thanks all! I took nice short video clips of the cows as well but sadly Fodor's won't let me upload them. Those cows are Brown Swiss and have always been the favourite breed of the area.

I got to see them going up the mountain in June back in 2016. Really wish I could link the video so you could hear all the bells.
View from our apartment balcony in Wengen. We had no advanced notice. I wondered why everyone was cutting their lawns the day before.

Am not the biggest fan of cows wearing bells 24/7. A couple of studies have suggested that wearing bells nonstop causes stress and may even affect milk production. I have noticed that the number of (organic) farms not belling their cows is increasing.

That's probably a bell for every cow this farmer owns.

Because events such as chilbis and fairs will not be held this year, farmers everywhere are making a special effort to announce the alpine cow drives and then decorate the cows accordingly. There's another one coming up in my hometown this weekend.
