Back to the passport issue, as M_M has correctly suggested, I'm Canadian and travel on a Canadian passport. I have also since determined from 2 sources on the web, that the fee you pay for a visa obtained at an entry point (gateway) into Turkey IS based on your nationality - which possibly explains why I paid a different price for a multiple entry visa compared to other non-Canadians. (My sticker is a brightly coloured brown/orange and blue one, about 2 inches by 1 inch). Don't know if the price varies for a single entry visa.
One website which hasn't been updated since 2000 listed the different prices for about 10 countries (but not Canada). Back then, Italians paid USD 5.00 while Portuguese paid USD 10.00; Jordainians paid USD 20.00 and US passport holders paid USD 45.00
Since I'm now curious about this practice, I'm trying to see if I can obtain an updated price list, but it explains why I was charged differently, and is useful to know.

That's great that there's an explanation for the difference in the fees and it wasn't a scam. Fodor's tends to be so America-centric that I forget that there are other nationalities.
