Is Visa Needed for US Passport Holder Travelling to Hungary?

Most places we travel to in Asia require a visa, so not needing one feels odd.

My son is going to Hungary and from everything we can find, it doesn't look like he needs a tourist visa and his passport alone will get him through immigration (He lives in the U.S. and has a U.S. Passport).

Is there anything he's missing, or is his US Passport all he needs?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Assuming it's a normal trouisty type visit then he doesn't need a visa to enter Hungary with a US passport.

He's going over for 4 days over Thanksgiving to visit a college friend who's there for the semester. He will only be in Hungary and probably just Budapest.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

You don't need a visa for most of Europe (possibly not any of Europe?).

Anway, Hungary is a Schengen country, so visa exemption operates for USA citizens, as in all the others.

Every country has an official Consulate website. There is always a list on that website of which country's passport holders are required to get a visa and another list of those country's passport holders who can just show up and get an entry stamp in their passport.

There are still parts of Europe that require a visa for US passport holders. Russia comes to mind as one country.

Russia is not Hungary. He is going to Hungary; no visa is needed.
