is this legit?

We booked a room through a service called all-hotels-in-paris.com, which directed us to nbportal.com. When I looked up the owner of this site, I found that it was someone in Russia. Does anyone know if they are legit?

I seriously doubt if they are legit -- one of many growing Russian scams, and in any case, if they are in Russia, you are in big trouble if you rely on their reservations and something goes wrong.

Just me personally, but I would not book a Paris hotel through a Russian agency. I prefer to query hotels directly either via fax, phone or email. I would only pre-book and pay with a credit card, if the company was very well known, I have used Hotelbook.com and Tripres.com but both for hotels in the USA. I did use an online booking service in Greece but only after I checked in Fodor's and Frommer's and saw them listed.

Charles:

How did you think to check and find out that they were Russian owned? As for me, I only deal with the big well known hotel booking agencies or the hotel directly.

Gerry

If you are trying to book a Paris hotel over the web you might try hotelboulevard.com. They have been mentioned a few times on this board. I booked a hotel with them over the internet last year without a problem. My recollection is that you don't need a credit card - you pay at the hotel. I hope this helps - I too would avoid the Russian based paris hotel booking website.

I would not trust ANY website that does not give a clear way to contact them via the telephone in case of difficulty (or one that discourages phone calls--see some colorful threads on www.romanhomes.com). Even smaller booking agencies often provide a phone number (I booked apartments in Russia from individuals, and was comforted by the clear way contact information was presented).
