Is there snow around Lucerne?
Leaving for a few days in Lucerne area mid-month and and have heard that there has been no snow--has anyone been there recently? If theres no snow-we may want to change our routing and spend more time in Germany instead and do Switzerland another year. I know Europe as a whole is having unsually warm weather-any idea about Switzerland? Any good links for web-cams?

Hi Poconolady,
I took a look at the link blackduff gave, and Luzern isn't on it -- that's a link for skiing, and of course Luzern isn't a ski destination. Engelberg outside of Luzern is on it though.
I checked a webcam for Luzern (www.swisswebcam.ch), and the city itself is dry.
There is snow in other areas of Switzerland, though. If you go up to the mountains, you'll find plenty. You may find some snow in the mountian of Rigi outside Luzern (www.rigi.ch).
Just fyi, I'm sitting in Germany (Mittenwald) now, and there's not much snow here either. The recent rains have just about washed away the snow we got on 3 Jan -- just traces left.
Hope this helps!

I live 35 min. from Lucerne at an elevation of 950. We had snow over Christmas but the rain has washed it away. I so wanted to take a cross country skiing course in our town tomorrow! Now we are going hiking instead.
We've had 10 degrees plus lately and my husband is still bike riding!
At least one of our skiers won a ski race. First time since 1998/9.
For an excellent webcam website of Switzerland, use: http://www.swisswebcams.ch/english/karte.php

You wouldn't want snow in Lucerne, that is messy and helps no one. But Engelberg (www.engelberg.ch/) is one of the nearby ski areas where snow is most welcome, but in short supply (www.engelberg.ch/Aktuell/PistenWetter/index.php for current conditions). It is simply too warm.
Have you seen this morning's papers - the ski races in Adelboden? No American completed both slalom stages, a Swiss came from 60th position and won, a very happy camper. Nothing but slush, terrible conditions, and Adelboden is at 1400 meters!
