Is the Jameson Heritage Centre in Co. Cork worth a visit?

Basically the tour goes through the process and history of making Irish whiskey. It explains what makes Irish whiskey different from scotch or bourbon. And then at the end they give a taste test of different ones. If this interests you then you'll enjoy it as I did.

If you're interested in how they make whisky, this is a good show. An extremely well run tour. If you're going to be in that area, drive down to Youghal - it's the best preserved city in Ireland - but be sure you take one of the walking tours - the guides are excellent.

Meg,

Yes the tour is worth it even if you are not interested in whiskey, however you don't have to go the whole way tp Cork to take such a tour - there is one at the Whiskey Corner in Dublin and at LOcke's Distillery in Kilbeggan (on the Dublin to Galway road ie midlands). In Cork you should also visit the Heritage Centre at Cobh if you have the time

In Dublin there is the Guinness tour or better still the Dublin Brewing Compnay run tours of their small brewery and it is excellent (not as touristy as Guinness and better value too with lots of free beer) They have a web site at www.dublinbrewing.com

Hope this helps,

Cathy
