I think you're talking about the Edgeware Road. I stayed at the Hilton London Metropole, which is right across the street from Edgeware Road tube stop. If your apartment in nearby that location, then I would say it is safe. There are a lot of Arab restaurants in the area. It is not a posh area. Close by (literally a 5 minute walk) is Paddington Station.

Yes, it is the Edgeware road area. I asked my husband but he is not sure about the exact location in edgeware road. Is there a part of that road unsafe?

Edgeware Road is pretty long . . . you need to find out where along Edgeware you'll be staying. I think Maida Vale turns into Edgeware Road . . .

I just looked at the following web location . . . .

http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/dyn/controller/mapRoadMapDisplay;jsessionid=QCRETXNDIIE5WWPIJPFE1 0I?direction=7&pageOrigin=300

and remembered that the A5 turns into Maida Vale and then turns into Edgeware Road which deadends into Bayswater and Oxford Road near the Marble Arch. I stayed at a Radisson Hotel there on Portman Square and that was a nice area. There were lots of signs for 'evening entertainment' east of there on Baker Street and lots of bookstores west of there on Queensway between Bayswater (which borders the northern end of Hyde Park) and Bishops Bridge.

Im sure some Londoners read these posts and once you get a more specific address can tell you far more than I can.

Snoopy - Would do you mean by "evening entertainment"? I will have my kids with me who are 16,15 and 10 so I want to make sure. Thank you for your help.

It's probably nothing, but I was struck by all of the "for a good time, call . . . " stickers pasted everywhere on practically every flat surface on Baker Street, just north of Portman square. It's not an unsafe part of London, just the opposite, I think. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it.

We have a problem with advertising cards posted by or on behalf of apparently hospitable ladies in phone boxes. Basically, the powers that be can't keep up with the people responsible, and the penalties for posting don't deter that much.

This doesn't mean the area itself is unsafe for anyone- you'll see these anywhere. But it might mean you'd have to prepare some suitable 'explanations' for curious young minds. Or just hurry past the phone boxes. 15 and 16 strike me as ages at which youngsters might be thinking of shielding you from some of life's realities!

The greatest threat you might have to face is crossing the main road.
