Is Prague unbearably cold in January?

Should I go later in the year instead? I'd like to see it in winter, covered with snow, but not if it's a terrible idea...

When I was there in January 2001 it wasn't that bad, maybe in the 40s, no snow.

I would suggest going to Prague when it is warmer. Prague is a "walking intensive" city and being there in the middle of the winter could make all that walking not very enjoyable.

Don't go in August! We were there for a week this past August before heading to Venice and Rome...all three were oppressively hot! I guess we should have expected the heat; kept the vendors busy with requests for water!

I visited last January too and there had been snow a few days before. It was wonderful! Very few tourists, which was ideal. Yes, it was cold, - a couple of degrees below freezing. Just go prepared and dress for it!

Steve
