Is London more Expensive than Paris?

In my younger days of travel, I often stayed outside the city center for budget reasons. My biggest complaint was the inconvenience of returning to my room between the day's activities and dinner/evening plans. Usually, I just stuck it out in town, sitting somewhere having a coffee at 5pm, exhausted from a day of sight seeing, too early for dinner. Yuck.
Having the convenience of taking a daily break (shower, change, rest, nap, whatever) is the single greatest improvement for me of no longer being on a budget.

I agree with Marilyn about the convenience of a hotel room in the city centre. I don't even like to take "daytrips" anymore because I'd rather get a hotel room whereever I'm going for someplace to rest. However, I think my age has a great deal to do with this, and I'm sure Robespierre is much younger than I am!

Not midday rest for me. But a chance to shower, change to something a bit nicer for dinner, write a few notes, etc. Just an hour of down time. I actually discovered how great this was when I was traveling in Asia on business. Then I carried it over to my pleasure travel as well. For me, it means that instead of being ready for sleep after my evening meal, I'm good to go strolling through the town, to a club for music or dancing, whatever.
