Ha CDG Express !!!!
I agree with you. I dont give it a chance to meet traffic / revenue objectives. Today, when off peak (non stop trains) and revamp cars, RER is on par with CDG Express, even better in terms of metro connections. RER could also cope with increase of traffic (in the future, there will be double decker cars and Chatelet tunnel could be expanded to 4 tracks).
Yes, there is the idea of adding check-in counters. I am not sure that what works perfectly well in HKG would also work in Gare de l'Est. In HKG, it is at "Central" station, which says it all, while you may have to make a detour to gare de l'Est just to drop your bag.
I also believe that door to door services will develop in the future, like, for example, Air France is doing (two propositions : one where guys come to your place to collect bags and, during busy periods, temporary check-in counters like in Invalides or Denfert)

For CDG Express, the relevance is that the average tourist is going to be charged few more bucks, probably from next year, to finance the project.
And for RER, some tourists end visiting banlieues while it was clearly not their intention to do so !

Actually, the trains have been changed over the last year and the new trains on the RER B are quite nice. And frequency has been increaded to once every 8 minutes for most of the day, so I personally have no complaints.

Mind you PalenQ, I did a small simulation and I would estimate that 40% of CDG passengers could ride a non stop train (and, in most cases, nice revamped cars Kerouac is talking of), because they will take itduring off peak period
Right now, the députés are discussing over the project and the outrageous tax.

yes, it adds to the stupidity / waste of money on CDG Express.
Metro should come by 2024, just one year after CDG Express (2023).
Today, politicians like to compare CDG with Heathrow and its HEX. But they dont realize that HEX could be dumped when Crossrail comes to Heathrow. If it is true, Heathrow would be with the same level of rail transport (Crossrail + Picadilly) as CDG with métro Grand Paris + RER
