Is it a big mistake to miss Caltagirone, Villa del Casale, Piazza Armerina, and Siracusa in Sicily????
I only have 11 nights and was thinking originally of 3 nights Palermo, 2 nights Sciacca (day trips to Selinunte & Agrigento), 2 nights Siracusa, 4 nights Taormina. I am now thinking it may be too much jumping around for me and am thinking 3 days Palermo, 4 nights Sciacca, 4 nights Taormina. With that plan I will basically miss the whole southeastern part of the island. Mistake???

I know that majority people enjoyed Siracusa but after seeing so many other ancient site I would be happy to skip Siracusa which did not appeal too much to us. Its old town is not really restored and houses are in need of paint, there are many dirty and sick cats. And I love cats. It was only place in Europe where my brother's wallet got stolen.

On the other hand I would never suggest skipping Piazza Armerina.

This is my opinion and I suggest you hit the guidebooks and read, then make your own decision what you are most interested in.

I would stay in
Palermo 3 nights
Agrigento 3 nights (taking day trip to Piazza Armerina)
Taormina 4 nights

Last night I would stay in Palermo if this is where you are flying from
Thanks, Sergio! I have so many guidebooks, there just seems to be so many amazing sites that it is hard for me to make a decision.

Thanks for the insight about Siracusa, I am also a cat lover & seeing sickly cats would sadden me. I will just have to hit the guidebooks once again and just decide.

I want to fly out of Catania going home, I guess that all depends on Etna though. The 3 days in Palermo/4 days in Taormina are going to stay but the toss up is with the 4 days in between.

While we did not have an unhappy cat or wallet experience in Siracusa, we also found that town and the ruins to be only so-so. Cannot imagine spending 4 days there. I think Agrigento is much more evocative and enjoy being there overnight in order to see things in different degrees and angles of light (didn't get to visit Selinunte).
Piazza Armerina is one of a kind and not to be missed. Not a bad day trip from Taormina.
