Is Hadrian's Villa a "must see"?

Only have 3, maybe 3 1/2 days in Rome. My parents say Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli is a must. Is it really worth a half day or more to see? I am more inclined to stay in Rome but am open to suggestions.
Thanks

Lisa:

If you combine Hadrian's Villa with a visit to Tivioli and its gardens, then it is worth the trip.

I am going in a few weeks so the gardens would not be all that grand I would think.

Lisa:

They're not that sort of gardens. After visiting the Villa D'Este, strolling through the "gardens" is quite an experience. It's the statuary and fountains, and abundance of both, that are so interesting.

If you are a Roman history/ruins enthusiast, yes Hadrian's Villa is a "must see." However, if you have not been to Rome before and since you have such a short time there, I'm not so sure the trip to Tivoli/Hadrian's Villa is the right choice.

j

Very much enjoyed the day tour that I took with Hadrian's Villa and Villa D'Este (beautiful gardens that are known for numerous fountains. Can't recall name of which company I used. Most offer this package. IMHO, if you've only got 3 or 3 1/2 days in Rome, I would not rate this as a "must see", especially if it's your first trip to Rome. There's too much in Rome itself to keep you busy (St. Peter's, Vatican Museum, Coloseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Borghese Gallery .... --- that's my must see items).

If you have a week in Rome than I would say that it is a must see. As others have pointed out, with such a short trip I probably would pass. I did enjoy it immensely when I was there, but I spent 10 days in Rome.
