i would like to know if i get alot more with dollars in greece.basically in terms of food,clothes,hotels. form what i heard it used to be very cheap like mexico.just wanted to know. it certainly cant be expensive like NY or some big american city.

Assuming the issue is "expensive" rather than "dollars", yes it IS inexpensive by comparison with much of Europe. Food and accommodation are not dear.<BR><BR>But it's not exactly Third World either.

I was in Greece last summer & I found it to be cheap. Then again I work in Manhattan- but I wouldn't say as cheap as Mexico. Food and accomodations are very reasonable.

Yes, generally speaking Greece is one of the cheapest countries in 'Western' Europe, on par with Portugal and Spain and cheaper than Italy, France, and especially UK and Scandinavia (lots of their nationals holiday there, for good reasons). Taverna food and modest hotels are very reasonable, though standards of cleanliness and hygiene (and plumbing) do vary and cheap taverna food can get a bit monotonous after a while. 5-star places cost nearly as much as elsewhere and there are plenty of expensive nightspots in fashionable resorts like Mykonos. Transport, however, is cheap, including ferries and internal flights (though heavily booked in high season).

While the general answer to this is "yes" there are some things to look out for. You can most definitely enjoy numerous inexpensive (and large) meals at most outdoor cafes but the specialty in Greece seems to be "fresh fish". In most cases they show you a large platter of uncooked fish and you pick the one you want and they cook it up for you and bring it back exactly as it looked before (head, skin, etc) only cooked. This meal (both times we had it) ran $70 a FISH (yes fish). We felt this was a total ripoff and quite honestly, coming from the eastern seaboard we were not all that impressed with the fish in general. Of course some people we traveled with loved it, but I presume they never had fresh Maine lobster, etc. Just like anywhere, you can find nice accomodations for less or you can spend $450 a night! All depends on you!
