Thanks for the encouragement about Dan Dooley. We took all of the insurance that we could take! I remember driving in Scotland and have heard Ireland is more tricky. We will pick up the car at the airport, but we are staying in Malahide and will take public transportation to Dublin. Thanks also for positive feedback about our itinerary. I know it is a little different than what a lot of people do, but I think it will work for us. Now I am trying to figure out what kind of clothes to take. I know that Ireland may be much cooler in June, even than Wisconsin.

If you are flying Aer Lingus, they have an agreement with Hertz which gives you cheaper rates. Compare prices with several rental agencies.
Using the World Master Card will give you some of your car insurance free, but you will have to pay the damages in Ireland, then apply for a refund from Master Card when you return home. They don't cover everything, so read the fine print.
Someone mentioned the age limit for car rentals (no longer apply). If you are that old, remember USA Social Security is not available outside the country. Better think about short term medical insurance (eg Insure mMy Trip). An air ambulance ride back wipes out the grandkids college fund.
I read the many messages quickly so amy have missed this, but many people like to listen to traditional music. If you are in the Galway City area, "trad" music is played in the town of Corofin. It is outstanding, and several of the young musicians have gone on to the River Dance troupes.

We aren't "that old" LOL. We are just in our late 50's. We took all the insurance we could get from Dan Dooley. I read all the fine print on our world master card and decided to just do it the easy way. We can't wait to hear traditional music!! Thanks for the tip about Corofin. JeanneV I apologize if you aren't really advertising - I just your same post on other sites and thought it odd. Sorry for any offense.
