Hey- we were going to rent a car through budgetireland.com and were using our credit card for insurance. We ended up canceling our car and styed in Dublin a few days. But, I know they let you book a car with no insurance if you have the platinum card.

I use Dan Dooley or Hertz because I've gotten frequent-customer upgrades from each of them. Both companies will give you a quote without CDW. HINT* see Pat Preston's website bargain page http://www.irelandexpert.com/pats_bargain_page.htm - it tells you how to get 10% discount on Dan Dooley rentals. Check with your gold or platinum card...I know citibank and capital1 cards will pay cdw, collision, theft with NO DEDUCTIBLE! By paying for the CDW with the rental you INCREASE your liability to the amount of the deductible, usually $500! Or you can pay for the SUPER-CDW and have what your credit card gives you for nothing!
Just be sure what YOUR card includes and ask for a copy of your insurance policy from your credit card company to be mailed to you. And pay for the entire rental with the card with the best insurance program!

Here is the scoop as I know it:

You can use MC gold or platinum and with some companies (Hertz for instance), Diners Club. If you are renting for 15 days or less, you can use the MC. If you are renting for more than 15 days, according to MC, if you drop the car off at a different place than you picked it up and rent a new car, you can still be covered on the same card. Deductible through MC is $0. There is a $500-$900 deductible with rental companies and the Super CDW is usually quite expensive. Diners Club allows you to rent up to 30 days.

Be sure to inspect the car very carefully if you use CC insurance. When the rental car company provides the insurance, they don't check it over very carefully. If it is covered by a CC, they are much more careful on the return inspection.

Bill

Used a MasterCard and was able to use the insurance feature. VISA would not work in Ireland.

Rented Alamo. My travelling companion went thru about 5 affinity plans to find the best deal - I think it was the Costco one.

The girl at the rental desk remarked on what a good deal it was.
