Ira: Gotta Change that Light Bulb

Ira - you really got to get with it and change that energy-guzzling lightbulb to a super-energy saver one

after all you are a role model for so many FodorFriends.

when will you start helping the environment?

soon i hope

Turn out the light!

"replace traditional incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.

'This is really a NO-BRAINER,' says Danny Lipford, host of tv's Today's Homeowner,'

Fluorescent bulbs use 75 % less electricity than incandescents and can last up to 10 times longer."

Ira - time to change and get with it - replace that energy guzzling light bulb - Save the Planet, etc.

Please the world depends on it and the example you'll set.

NPR : CFL Bulbs Have One Hitch: Toxic Mercury

She says that even though fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, using them contributes less mercury to the environment than using regular incandescent bulbs. ...

Will everyone be happy if you started to post a candle? Probably no, since there's always something.

Candles = carbon emissions.

Everything I read also pretty much negates that thing about the dangers of mercury in fluorescent bulbs.

Perhaps Ira's light bulb trademark has less to do with energy than what he believes is brilliance.

The problem arises when 10's of millions of CFL end up in a landfill. Then you have a very high concentration of Hg.

LEDs would be a better replacement.

Did anyone catch Tom Friedman's Op-Ed in today's NYTimes? Looks like Ira's trademark won't impact us too negatively. LOL EJ (Guess I could make a case for a solar energy signature, but I just like the sunshine.)

what are LED's????

we are in the process of swaping out old light bulbs with new energy efficent ones, which cost a fortune by the way!

We figure out that to do our entire house will cost us several thousand dollars because we need the three way bulbs.

nanabee, I'm impressed. Do you live in Versailles? Good three way light bulbs cost under $ 5 each. For "several thousand dollars" you can get 500 to 600 three way light bulbs.

I'm with Dukey. Let Ira switch to candles - cheap, easily purchased and will cast a flattering light on everything said and done.

I say Ira should douse the lightbulb as soon as the rest of you unplug your energy-gobbling computer monitors. ;-)
