Interlaken Itinerary
Hello:

We will be visiting Switzerland in July-end for our honeymoon and would like some advice.

I will have Interlaken as my base camp for 4 days and 5 nights. Could people suggest me the best way to optimize my time there ?. I definitely want to visit Jungfraujoch one day.

Thank you..

Pradhyum

Pradhyum

I suggest that you look at the following sites regarding your time in Interlaken and the surrounding area. Many people say Interlaken isn't the best place to base yourself, however personally, I don't mind it as I feel that it is central to the Mountains as well as Montreux etc. But thats just a personal opinion of course.

http://www.berneroberland.com/main-e.htm
http://www.grindelwald.ch/
http://www.gimmelwald.com/
http://www.interlakentourism.ch/e/index.html
http://www.muerren.ch/
http://www.wengen.com
http://www.sbb.ch/index_e.htm

David
So many great options in Switzerland. Have you considered 3 days in Interlaken and another stay in, say, Zermatt, Montreaux or even Bellagio/Cernobbio?
The Victoria-Jungfrau has some very nice rooms (lots of different types/quality_ in Interlaken, and our favorite is the Villa d'Este in Cernobbio on Lake Como. The Swiss/Italian Alps are so amazingly beautiful and pristine.

Consider spending at least part of your time in Wengen. That's the Switzerland where Heidi lived... Beautiful hiking trails through the mountains, easy trip to the Jungfraujoch from there. We had originally planned to stay in Interlaken but moved to Wengen after two disappointing days in Interlaken as our base.

Hi
OK, so I may be partial to Switzerland (I'm from there), but I think you've picked a BEAUTIFUL country to visit.
As for your choice of Interlaken, I definetly recomment visiting the town for a day - it's very picturesque - but also VERY touristy. If you stay in Bern, it may not be as beautiful but it will be more convenient for moving around - you have major (direct) trains to almost everywhere. Interlaken is about 1 hour away. If you go hiking at Jungfrau, WEAR SUNSCREEN! I didn't and had the mark from the sunburn for 2 yrs.

I also recommend taking the Glacier Express. A slow express train ride that lasts about 8 hours and goes from Zermatt to St. Moritz. The scenery is breathtaking.
