Have any of you ever used Insurance4CarHire for excess insurance: http://www.insurance4carhire.com/ and actually had to make a claim with them because of dammage to your rental car?

I am interested in knowing how the claim was processed, whether you had any problems getting refunded money, was the money in pounds sterling, or any other info you can share?

BTW, I did a search first but have found no info about actual claims. Thank you.

it is a valid question.. i think the policy is backed by liberty insurance. i'll take a look at it.

I would think most of us who rent cars in Europe already have such coverage on our credit cards for free. I know we do. NO? Or do I sense from your screen name that you're European and maybe don't have such coverage?

I just renewed with them but have to admit, fortunately have never had to make a claim.They are connected to AIG or another huge company so I am confident any listed claim will be covered. I hope Mladej's experience confirms that! Will be watching!

There are now several other companies offering excess insurance, so shop around.

I've had a policy with Insurance4CarHire for the past 2 years but so far never had to make a claim. AFAIK they're a reputable outfit. We hire cars quite a lot on our travels, and for me it's MUCH cheaper than paying the extra costs charged by the hire car company to remove the excess.

Note to US posters: for residents here in Europe it's not customary to get excess (deductable) waiver coverage with your credit card, you either have to pay additional fees when booking/picking up your car - or get an annual multi-trip policy to cover you from a specialist insurance company.

So, our Claim was solved in 5 working days after sending all documents, today we've got information that money transfer was made and now I'm waiting for the money. It was around 2000GBP for one claim.

I have purchased this insurance in one of my trips. Unfortunately, on that trip I returned the car with a scratch on the driver door. I was charged 227€ by the rental company for the repair. I filed all the necessary documents to insurance4carhire. The correspondence was good and quick and i was quite satisfied until i got their final response:

"In relation to your query regarding the calculations please note this is based on the document received from Auto Europcar which states Total Euro is €227.21 :
damage to vehicle = €88.50
damage report fee = €35.00 - not covered
Loss of profit fee = €60.00 not covered
Total £183.51
20% VAT £36.70 - not covered
Postal fee 7.00 - not covered
Total as per invoice = €227.21
If you could provide me with the requested bank details your claim will be settled for €88.50.".

Of course the policy doesn't disclose that almost everything is not included.
If you are looking for peace of mind when hiring a car i surely don't recommend this company. For a around 25% more you get a CDW that actually covers the excess fee.

UPDATE: After contacting the costumer complaints department, and a short email correspondences, I was reimbursed for full amount and the claim was settled to my satisfaction. It took a while until I actually got the money (and hence the late update here), but that was probably due to a bank mistake, and not the fault of Insurane4carhire.
