Insight on Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo,Florence anyone stayed there?

I have a good feeling about this one and love their website. Would it be convenient to take day trips to Pienze,Greve, Sienna, San G?

I've always loved the look of the place too, but I've never stayed there.

You should be aware, though, that it's on top of a hill in the Oltrarno and that there is no public transportation available to go up the hill.

The last time I looked, they did not have a restaurant, so you will have to either have a car or take taxis.

As far as I recall, for Pienza, Siena and San Gimignano, you leave Florence by the Via Senese through the Porta Romana. The Porta Romana is, more or less, at the bottom of the hill (Bellosguardo) on which the hotel is located. But I'm not sure that I would go be prepared to say that you will be able to reach it "conveniently."

Hi mcwedding,
I've stayed at the Torre di Bellosguardo twice, and it's one of my most favorite places in the world.

The view from there is fabulous, and it's great for getting away from the hustle and bustle of Florence.

Make sure you allow yourself some downtime to just stroll through the gardens and hang out around the pool-- it really is a magical place- It would be the perfect place for a honeymoon.

We have always had a rental car, and have found it no problem to take day trips from there.

As far as sightseeing in Florence: It's a very pleasant walk down the hill into town, and then you can take a taxi back up.

To go to dinner in the evening we would drive down to the bottom of the hill (it's not too difficult to get a parking place in the evening) and then walk to dinner, and then drive back up to the hotel after dinner.

Oh, thank you so much! I have been searching for some feedback for quite some time! Will it be too much of a hassle if we do not have a rental car?

My daughter and I stayed there for 2 nights a few years ago and loved it! As a previous poster said, it was very calm, very tranquil, and we didn't in the least have a problem not having a rental car.

Thank you Trevia. It's so wonderful to have some feedback on this hotel. Do you have any resteraunt reccomendations that are nearby? How far of a walk to the city? Would it be safe to walk down to the bottom of the hill at night?

Ditto marcy's post. This is one of my Florence favorites. You must have a car and day trips are a piece of cake and SO enjoyable.

We usually would walk into the city and then take a taxi back, but that was usually because we were tired, not due to safety concerns. As to restaurants, I'm afraid I can't remember! We had some great meals - one was a lunch at a place where you all ate together at long tables. Sorry not to have been more helpful. We then rented a car which I believe is the best way to see so many of the wonderful small towns - our favorites were Radda and Panzano. We stayed in a small agrituristo near Castellini en Chianti for a week after Florence.

I personally would not want to stay there without a car.

It's perfectly safe to walk around the hotel at night (except that the streets are VERY narrow, so you'd want to watch out for cars), but the hike up the hill is pretty daunting.

Room number 12 has a HUGE, amazing bathroom, and a fabulous view of the Duomo, but you'd better reserve way in advance.
