Hello! I'm looking for some recommendations for moderately priced incredible restaurants in Rome. We will be there in early December. Thanks! Edna

I'm not going to be too specific here, but main suggestion is that you cross the river to Trastevere and look for any small busy restaurant. Although that area has now been discovered by the tourists it is still the true neighborhood of local eating out and I have never had a bad meal there. Correction -- I have never had anything but a great meal there.

Rome, there tons of places. Trastavere has great places. Also near Piazza Navona there is a place called TOSCA, very good and not too expensive. Also, near the Piazza Navona is COSTANZA which is off of Victor Emmanuele. I think they are closed on Mondays. They have the best risotto verde. Have fun.

La Scaletta degli Artisti on Via di Santa Maria dell' Anima behind the Piazza Navona - we had an absolutely delicious 3-course lunch for two there with wine for under $50. The waiter that served us is from the Netherlands and is quite a trip! Eccentric to say the least, however, very informative. He kept giving us tips to make us true Italians - quite a laugh!

Jennifer, I was trying to remember the name of the little place near the Navona where we had dinner, and that was it! I knew it was the same place when you mentioned the waiter from the Netherlands. He was VERY funny. And the food was excellent too. I had a risotto with meat sauce that was outstanding. <BR> <BR>

Beth - what a small world. That waiter was a riot - one minute you loved him for his local insights, the next you'd feel slightly offended due to his frank opinions on Americans. It was all in good fun though, especially as we realized he was NOT native - an import himself! And the laughs when my husband asked for olive oil to dip his bread - he knew it was a no-no and that he'd get chided but couldn't resist..."the horror!" the waiter said. A great memory...
