Thank you for that input, pavot!
Great info. Thank you, bilboburgler.
Quick question for anyone who is looking and might have an opinion:
I'm thinking of changing Salisbury/Stonehenge to Sunday. Are the weekdays so much less crazy that I should stick with Thursday?

There are timed tickets to Stonehenge -- so it really doesn't matter that much (pre-book). It would make more difference if you were driving because the parking can be an issue.
It won't be 'crazy' - the site is vast. The gift shop/visitors center can have queues.

Thanks for those responses. I was hesitant to pre-book Stonehenge because you have to choose an exact time. That seemed like a tall order since we are somewhat at the mercy of the trains and the Stonehenge Bus tour from Salisbury. So, I was just going to buy the Stonehenge ticket on the bus which is not a timed admittance but open, I believe. I find it all a little confusing. Good to know the cathedral is open for a bit on Sunday.

You definitely want to pre-book. Tickets are for timed slots and if all the slots are full on your day you will be SOL.
I'd book a mid-afternoon time slot, take a morning train to Salisbury, explore the town, see the Cathedral around noon-1PM, take the bus to the stones for your pre-booked time then back to Salisbury and train back to London.

Okay, yes, but it's also my understanding that if I book with the bus company in Salisbury and buy my Stonehenge ticket through them, it is good for any time that day. I'll do some more reading and make sure! Thanks.
