Info required for Berchtesgaden
We will be going to Berchtesgaden in May from Garmish. We are 2 adults & 2 children below 10 yrs. We will travel by train. Can we use the lander ticket?
What is the best ticket option to take for a ticket so that we can see the region. Can we use the lander ticket for going to Salzburg?
We will be staying at Berchtesgaden-Maria Gern Krankenhaus. Are there any budget eating places in Berchtesgaden and the surrounding areas?
What are the must see attractions?
Kind regards,
SKPKCP11

That's a horrible route to take by train 4.5 hrs and 2 changes, one in Munich and just over the border from Salzburg in Freilassing.
Any chance you could rent a car for that part of the trip? You'd halve the travel time and it'd give you flexibility in and around Bertschesgaden.

I take the bus from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg. I think it was 5-6 € each way. But with your family, it will be less expensive to go on the train using the Bayern ticket. And yes, you can use the Bayern ticket from Garmisch to Berchtesgaden.

There's a great pizza place upstairs at the Goldener Bär restaurant on the main pedestrian street in Berchtesgaden. The pizza was very good and reasonably priced as well. Also, you might want to look at buying sliced meats and rolls at the local market or butcher shop and make your own sandwiches for a picnic. We do this regularly and it helps keep food costs down.

The area is called : Locksteinstr.29
It is opposite the Krankenhaus.
Any recommendations for pensions / gasthaus for something in the city centre in Berchtesgaden. The official berchtesgaden.de site does not really offer much options.
Since we are staying in Garmish, do you think we should give Berchtesgaden a skip.
Just one last clarification - Berchtesgaden is in Germany & Salzburg is in Austria. Please confirm.
Regards.

Actually, I can see nothing wrong with using the Bayern Ticket to take the ENTIRE family from GAP to Berchtesgaden for only 29 Euros. Let's face it, there is no really easy way to do it, short of renting a car.
Yes, Salzburg is in Austria and Berchesgaden is in Germany. However, both places sit right on their respective borders. Moreover, you can use the Bayern Ticket all the way to Salzburg if you like. You can also use the same ticket on the RVO bus from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg. It takes less time to go between the two places by bus, rather than by train.
Relax and enjoy your stay in this beautiful area. The hour or so of extra time that it wil take by using the Bayern Ticket will be tempered by the fact that you've saved a lot of money in these tough economic times!

Thanks to all for the great info.
Please advise gasthaus / B&B options for stay in Berchtesgaden. We will not have a car. Therefore, would prefer something central.
Are there direct bus connections from Garmish to Berchtesgaden. If yes, what is the time taken to travel by bus?
Regards
