info on italy

I am going to Italy in September - 4 days in Rome, 3 in Florence and 2 in Venice, traveling by train. It is an unescorted tour. Any recommendations of MUST SEE and/or great inexpensive restaurants?

While in Florence you MUST GO to Fiesole, about 15 minutes outside the city on Bus #7. The last stop is at the "square" in Fiesole. There is a small little pizzeria on the corner, you'll see it immediately when you get off the bus, it's across from Hotel Aurora. Good food. Explore Fiesole and also enjoy the fabulous views.

Bob,

I would consider trying to do a day trip to one or more or the smaller towns in Tuscany from Florance. It will give you a different view of Italy.
Check out www.toursaroundtuscany.com if you want some ideas.
Italy is beautiful, have fun!
Aileen
Hi Bob!
I always recommend a couple of restaurants in Florence. "Il Cavallino" is at 4 r via delle Farine, and "Da Noi" (which is small & lovely & intimate) is at 46 r via Fiesolana. I echo the sentiments of the poster who said to go to Fiesole, but only if it's clear. The view of Florence is truly breathtaking. In good weather, I would also recommend the Boboli Gardens. Plenty of "must sees" indoors--the Uffizi, the Pitti Palace, the Bargello, Michaelangelo's house, and so many splendid churches.

I hope you have a delightful time!
BC
We visited Italy in March and thoroughly enjoyed Rome and Florence/Tuscany. Unfortunately we eliminated Venice because of time constrainsts (next time!).

I've done lots of research and have lots of Web sites and personal information. If you are interested, write me and I'll email everything to you.
Gee, I have the card right here for a good Florence restaurant:

i'Toscano
Via Guelfa 70 r
Telephone: 055 215475

The house wine is a Chianti Classico with their own label. mmmmmmmm. If they have Gnudi that night, someone should order it (pasta course, but there is no pasta in this dish...trust me, it is wonderful)

Giglio Rosso (close to the Duomo) and Leo (off Piazza Santa Croce) are two places I visited two years ago for dinner and will make a return trip to next year. Prices are reasonable - food great! Don't miss the steak florentine (obviously not named such on the menu) at Leo....
