Annie,

Do NOT consider anything less than 4 star in Istanbul - we had a pretty bad experience in '98 with reservation service at the airport hotel reservations desk. Be sure to see the room and check the A/C is, in fact, working, not just blowing warm air.

Try Hotel Romance - rooms were small but the clean, running water all day, and the A/C was working.

Have fun. E-mail me if you need other tips - we spent 2 weeks in Turkey in 8/98, traveling by car.

Dear Annie,I have heard about Valide Sultan, but I recommend that Yasmak Sultan for Sultanahmet area. They give us this price for twin bed room $85,Season is going great,so you can have some problems to get a room. Even tough I work for a travel agency,I do have some problems. But U can arrange all your settlements via internet. Send me prices, and I can tell you it is expensive or cheap.
Check hotel's information on this web-site

http://www.yasmaksultan.com/yasmaksultan

You can check other hotels in fodors' travel site.
Have a nice trip.
Best Regards;

Debbie, after hearing about my wonderful experiences in Turkey last year, an acquaintance has decided to go in May. She's now starting to get concerned about safety issues, with all the problems that Turkey is going through. Did you feel unsafe there at any time? I loved it and want to go back next year. She's starting to re-think her trip. If you have any words of advice, I'd appreciate it.

She is also planning to get in touch with the Canadian embassy in Turkey, but it would help to hear from another tourist.

Thanks.

Hello.
Thanks for the replies.
I'm Annie's fiance and we would really like to settle the accomodations as soon as possible.
We'll look at your suggestions and decide soon, I hope.
By the way, if you have not guessed by now, we'll be visiting Istanbul on our honeymoon so we would prefer quaint and romantic hotels.
Please give us more of your valuable suggestions and ideas.

Best Regards,
Fabian.
Hi love-birds,

We're looking at going to istanbul too and currently doing somehotel research.

Hotel Ambassador e-mailed me back for a room with a jacuzzi for US$120 (end of May) which I thought was good and another place called Hotel Ilkay had about US$70 for a suite ontheir website. What that entails, I don't know.

www.hotelcity.com is a good place to find out about hotels.

Have lots of fun.
