Info about Thun , Switzerland?
The city of Thun, west of Interlaken, looks like it might be very interesting and beautiful. We will be in the area the first week of Nov. If anyone has been there personally, can you tell us your observations, please.?/ and possible recommendations of hotels. Thank you.

Lake Thun is a very beautiful area and should not be missed. Ships travel on the Lake transporting people to different areas and towns, including Interlaken--used to be free with Eurail pass. One can eat or drink in the ship's restaurant while watching all the bautiful scenery. We always stayed in Brig and visited Thun by way of Spiez. An afternoon seeing the town itself, including the castle, would be adequate. Suggest staying in areas nearby a doing a day visit.

Have stayed in Interlaken twice and visited Swiss friends in Thun. The Interlaken area is one of the most beautiful in the world. If you want a luxurious experience, stay at the Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken. We have stayed at the 12 story Metropole, the only "high rise" hotel in Interlaken - it's not luxurious but very nice and has wonderful views from its balconied upper floor rooms. Thun is just a few minutes away by boat ride, a great experience by itself.

We were in the area two years ago and stayed at the Strandhotel Belvedere in Spietz, right on the lake with a view of the castle. It was beautiful and quiet, and within easy reach of everything you to see in the region: Lauterbrunnen Valley, Murren, Wengen, Grindelwald, etc. Frau Schlatter is the manager, and the hotel is very well run. Definitely off the beaten path, and a relief after hectic Interlaken.

Thun is one of our very favorite cities in Switzerland. We did not actually spend the night there (we stayed in nearby Interlaken). We tend to look for a small apartment type accomodation and could not find that in Thun. The apartment in Interlaken was very, very nice, but the town of Interlaken was not overly impressive to us - way too busy, but a good central area to take day trips from. We are looking at the possibility of going to Murren or Wengen. If you need more specific information, please feel free to send an email.
