Indonesian Restaurants

Does anyone have any recommendations for good Indonesian food in the Netherlands? I'll be in Amsterdam, Delft and probably Den Hague for sure, and who knows where else. I lived in Indonesia for two years in the '80's and am looking for really good sate!

Holland has a slew of what they usually call 'chinese-indonesch' (sp) restaurants, all of which feature the 'rijstaffel'. I've eaten in several and they all seem similar to me but restaurants are not my bag. there are many in the tourist area of Amsterdam but many more all throughout the outer areas - these may be more real places I suspect. many of these are huge imporia with impressive decor. I always suggest asking you hotel proprietor such questions though i'm sure you'll get some good ideas in this forum. Fodorites seem in general to know a good deal about eateries. Delft, Den Hague all are sure to ample choices - especially much larger Den Hague. having a Rijstaffel in Amsterdam is one thing i heartily recommend in Amsterdam. For more plebean Indo food try the 'bamis' served in broojde stands and ubiquitous fast-food places like FEBO - they also serve cheap take out sate and have a wondrous peanut sauce they put on things like french fries.

Probably the best in these cities:
Den Haag: Garoeda
Amsterdam: Tempoe Doeloe
Delft: Redjeki

In a "Chinese-Indonesian" restaurant you will generally not get Indonesian food but an adapted version. If you've lived in Indonesia you'll probably want the real mccoy! Selemat!

I knew there was a reason that i hold onto every scrap of paper--Jayakarta in rembrandtsplein. good rijstaffel and a great neighborhood to bar hop and laugh at the roving bachelor party groups.

Jenviolin is right on the money in Amsterdam (and would trust her on the others): it IS Tempo Doeloe (by Rembrandtsplein, right Jen?)

EXCELLENT Indonesian food (better than what you'll find in Jakarta!), lovely atmosphere, not exactly cheap, around 25-30E, but if you're looking for the best in Indonesian fare, this is it in Am'dam.

Thanks guys!

I have to admit, I don't think I ever had Indonesian food in Jakarta, but if I can find sate that is half as good as what I got from the stand down the street from our house in Bogor, I'll be happy!

We tried Garoeda in Den Haag: Horrible and overpriced/overrated @ euro 26.75 per person not total but pp.

We don't know about Indonesian food, but we know a rip off and we could tell this was not anything authentic. It seemed to be geared towards the locals as the placed was packed.

We just returned from Amsterdam and went to Indrapura in the Rembrandtsplein. We ordered the 28 item option for 2. I had never had Indonesian so nothing to compare it to, but I can say I enoyed everything they served, prices were reasonable, and service very good.

I agree with Brigadoon...INDRAPURA...delicious!http://www.indrapura.nl/
Much better than one we tried in Leidseplein.
While riding our bikes, we stopped at a cafe, Veranda, on Amstelveensweg near Amsterdamse Bos. Although their Indonesian menu is very limited, their chicken sate was very tasty.
