By far GV is the most exciting wine from Austria, but I'd also like to highlight the high quality Austrian red pinot derivatives such as St Laurent and Blaufraenkisch and the famous Zweigelt.

Quality reds (pinot derivative blends)at reasonable prices:
Pannobile made by 9 wineries in the village of GOLS (Burgenland): www.pannobile.at

The best pannobile winemaker is Heinrich who was one of the original pannobile founders. He also makes much better quality blend wines such as GARBARINZA and SALZBERG: www.heinrich.at/index.php?setlang=en

Brundlmayer is known for its St Laurent as well.

There is a distinctive taste to all the Austrian pinot that you'll learn to recognize as you drink more of them.

One rather successful young winemaker who makes only red wines: www.iby.at
Unfortunately he still has problems with consistency, so some bottle can be really great the next is just OK/not impressive. Nevertheless his wines are quite a bargain.

BTilke: I also buy my wines from Globus in Luzern & Basel. There was a time when I bought so many Chateau Margaux at half the market price!
