Hi sallyjane. Well, I'll be here
Happy to meet for drinks & conversation one evening during the week - can do the Monday any time, Wednesday any time or Thursday after c.7.30.
(In a previous post you said you are arriving on a Sunday, though, & that would be the 22nd wouldn't it ?)

You are absolutely right. Was thinking of day I leave the States. Shouldn't post messages before my morning caffeine!
Would love to meet you that Monday night. Ummm, the 23rd? (How am I doing now?)I'm staying at the Roxburghe but will be wandering around taking pictures all day.And most likely grinning from ear to ear.
Any suggestions on where and when to meet?

Hi sallyjane. Righto, the 23rd is in my diary. Do you want to meet before or after you have dinner ? I can make any time from c.6pm onwards. We can finalise the location nearer the time, but one idea is Whigham's Wine Cellars which is very near the Roxburghe. Perhaps if you top this nearer the time we will get some more Fodorites along ? Have a nice weekend - Caroline.

Hi Sallyjane. Hope you are looking forward to your trip. If you'd like to have dinner too I suggest Centotre, an Italian bar/restaurant in an old bank on George Street. We can still meet for a drink first in Whigham's - it is quite atmospheric and I think you'd like it. Both are close to the Roxburghe. What times would suit you ? (It's best if I book for Centotre.)
Any other Fodorites going to be here then ?

Hi, caroline. You BET I'm excited about my trip. I'm still in that surreal before-the-trip stage where I have to pinch myself occasionally to remind me it's really true.
You tell me what time is good for you. I typically think of drinks at 6 PM and dinner around 7, but I'm flexible. I would love to visit both places you mentioned if you can tolerate me that long!

Hi Sallyjane : that will be nice. I'll book Centotre for 7 & see you in Whigham's Wine Cellars at 6 - I'll be carrying/reading a copy of the Herald Whigham's is on Hope Street, just the other side of Charlotte Square from the Roxburghe.
Hi Sheila : that would be nice too, however... We're off to Sheffield on the Friday for a party, then coming back on Sunday, getting in c.16.45, then meeting my SOL, her boyfriend, his sister & her husband who are coming up from Leicestershire for the Heineken Cup ! So there will be 6 of us - were probably planning on just going for a few pints then a curry as they'll still be in their rugny shirts. What do you think - does it seem feasible to link up our 2 parties ?

Great, Caroline. I'll be the short, redheaded woman scanning the place for the woman with the newspaper!(Ummm, better remember to wear my glasses.) Thanks for making the reservation.

caroline and sheila:
It's in the 70's here today, 80's tomorrow so I'm putting away winter clothes. What kind of jacket; e.g.; how heavy, do I need to bring there week after next?? (I won't hold you responsible if the weather changes!)The weather websites say it'll be in the 50's in the day and 40's at night. Sound about right?

Yup, sounds about right, although you could be lucky & experience what passes for a heatwave here Currently I'm wearing a wool winter coat to work & to go out at night, and a denim jacket for rushing around in the daytime at the weekend.

sallyjane: bring everything ! Over the weekend we had a mini heatwave : yesterday was 21 degrees C (about as hot as it ever gets in Edinburgh !!) & I was sunbathing ! Today the forecast is back down to 9 degrees C & I'm back in my winter coat
