As an amateur translator for coco's website, I'm so glad georgiegirl chose that apartment and also that she found it to her liking.

Having returned only last week from 3 weeks in Italy, I find myself wondering "Where next?" and thinking of France...la vraie France, la France profonde, into which category Burgundy may indeed fall.

More info on what you did and what you saw, please.

Coco: what an irony: rain in France and here in Canada (quelques arpents de neige, to quote Voltaire) it is 20 degrees today!

We still have some snow on the ground but I sent staff home early today, as it is just too beautiful to stay inside.

"... quelques arpents de neige, to quote Voltaire ..."

I'm sitting here laughing, tedgale, as we haven't seen any snow in Halifax for weeks and weeks.

Voltaire did have a way with words. His comment on the execution of Britain's Admiral Byng (executed for not having tried hard enough): "Dans ce pays-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres." Not exactly the best management technique!

We've been thinking of Burgundy as well. Coco, maybe we'll spend a week with you next year!!

robjame, yes, it's new for Margiet and me. Your photos of Beaune earlier this week got me thinking that we should visit there sooner rather than later. If we do end up going, we'll be looking for restaurant recommendations!

Coco, something that I have been meaning to mention to you. Having read many of your postings here for some time, I have noticed your command of English just keeps getting better and better. Bravo, Coco!!

Can people from the USA dine there too? We're staying in a Gite in St Romain (just a few Ks from Pommard) for 2 weeks in Sept. What's the name of the place?

I think the weather has changed this year. In the San Francisco Bay Area, we just set a new record for the most days with rain in March - 25. It is set to continue through next week also. Temps 5-10 degrees below normal.

Indy >I really should figure out how to but the circonflex on the "o".< Actually there is no circonflex. I think there used to be one a long time ago so I checked and there is none. La Dôle is somewhere near Geneva..
http://www.dole.org/sitedole/ANGLAIS.../tourisme.html

I’ll try to remember la rue de la bière for next time. ;-)

Ted et Anselm, avec plaisir bien sûr ! It would be a pleasure to show you la France profonde!&lt ~gt;

Stu will you still be staying at Hotel du Jura on your last night in Burgundy? I’m sure you don’t want to miss the 6h30 train to CDG. I shew gg where it is located. Very convenient but I really don’t like that street. Not typical at all.

Robjames I saw your photo album about Burgundy and was sad :-S (although your pics are very nice) not to see Dijon. I didn’t complain > on your posting because you didn’t have much time (although people staying in Dijon for more than 2 days always try to go to Beaune for a day or a few hours)
I hope you’ll make a nice album on your future visit to Dijon
Please check what I wrote on one of my previous messages (starting with « gg, I’m glad… ».) and just add .com to it.
This is the quizz of the day! :-?

We had a great sunny morning in Dijon and I hope in Besançon too for gg, but now it is raining again !!! Can’t believe it ! cchottel will be arriving withing an hour and I have to take an umbrella.
I think I will take them to le musée de la Vie Bourguignonne, next to Ste Anne Church (with its green round roof). Tomorrow should be nice again… At least it is a perfect weather to eat a raclette! (never in summer, too hot to eat melted cheese!)
à plus tard!

Poor gg! she just called me to say she missed the train to Dijon by 2 minutes on her way back from the Citadelle (quite a long walk). She'll be arriving at 5pm instead of 3.43pm. I'll meet cchottel on my own then and we'll go for a short walk before picking up gg at the train station. Hope she won't miss the next train!

coco - The apartment looks fantastic and I have bookmarked it.
I admit I haven't considered Dijon as a destination, more of a "place on the way". I am going to reconsider that. Thank you.

Thanks again Indy. I had a good time in Besançon. Being a Saturday, the train schedule is less frequent. I took the 7:30 train. Otherwise, the next one is about 2 hours later. Got there before the tourist bureau open for business. I started to cross the bridge (Le Doubs river) looking for actions. I eyed a lady with empty rollon basket. I started to follow her knowing that she was on her way to the market. It is not as big as the one in Dijon. Walked back to the tourist bureau and decided on 2 visits: the astronomical clock and la Citadelle. They are both in the same direction, up hill.
Got to get ready to leave Dijon to Avignon this morning. (I was late getting back to the flat. Coco hosted la raclette at her house for gg and cc. It was very good.)

Scarlett, vous etes gentille! BTW, why are you still up?
The clock visit (3€ fee) was very interesting even though I could not understand most of the speech given by the gentleman. One must get to the entrance by 10 minutes before the hour because the highlight of the visit is the striking of the hour. He locks the door and you will have to wait for another hour.
Later on, I climbed my way to la Citadelle (7.80&euroThey turned the old fort into museum/zoo/aquarium. Very interesting. I had lunch in the diner there. It was decent: roti de porc with pepper sauce, sald and a lot of ff. BTW, cc mentioned that she noticed the portions served in France are bigger and I agreed. For lunch one day in Dijon, I ordered salade vignerone (sp?) I got full just looking at it. At least they did not used iceberg lettuce. However, I could not finish it. It was good though.
Back to the fort, I thought that I would have enough time walking down hill across the river to the train station which is on another hill! Well, if you followed this post, you knew then that I missed the train.
Coco is here now picking me up to the train station. Hope I have something interesting to share.
Thanks Coco and your homeindijon.

My turn now
Thanks Scarlett for your interest (so late for you!)
I'm back from the station where I put gg into the train, we were just 10 min in advance because she wanted to finish her posting here...There is almost no traffic on Sundays fortunately!
Now the flat is so tidy that I don't even know where to start, thanks gg!
cc should be coming to see me later and we'll spent sometime together, musée Magnin, musée de la vie bourguignonne...
cc brought the sun with her yesterday afternoon, I even took a pic of the sky by the station to see the break between clouds and blue sky, it was like magic!
We spent an hour going around (BTW hotel Thurot seems nice and quiet), Darcy park, place Darcy, rue de la liberté, place François Rude, Notre Dame, Hotel de Vogüe with its great tiled roof and sculptures,(don't forget to go inside to see them) Palais des Ducs where there were weddings taking place, and back to the station to wait for gg.
She didn't even see us when getting out of the train and I had to run fast to catch her! Then we went to the flat to have a little rest before the raclette.(raining again..)
We really enjoyed the evening until past midnight and then, gg back to the flat and cc back to her hotel.(they both had to dial on the digicode and even with the alcohol they drank they didn't forget it! ;-)).

I'm still waiting for cc at the flat but I'm afraid she won't show up. I doubt she got lost; maybe she found something very interesting, I hope she did. I wrote the digicode on the apartment card but maybe she lost it. What a pity! If she had a mobile phone...
Nothing serious I hope.
If you see her before I do, please tell her I'm sorry!

gg just called me from Noves where is starting to have French lessons until Friday. Unfortunately you'll have to wait to know the rest of her adventures as there is no internet connection available...
And no news from cchottel! I know she is back to Paris today. Hope she'll enjoy her few days there.

Well, as you know coco, I couldn't figure out the code AND I couldn't figure out the phone. I was quite frantic, because I didn't want you to feel that I was ungrateful.

I did go to the Musee des Beaux Arts and, as you said, Coco, it was impressive. I wore out before I got to the Impressionists.

Everyone, Coco is absolutely the loveliest person with the most wonderful family. GG is so interesting and her French is so much better than my few words here or there. After her school, she will be fluent. Tres bien.

I am in Rouen today. Day trip from Paris. Not much to do here on a Tuesday. I'm not one for shopping. So, I've stopped twice at internet shops. I'll post a trip report when I get back on Friday night.

But, I wanted you to all know that Coco, her entire family, Dijon, and her flat were just wonderful. Merci, Coco.

Hi girls,
I'm pleased to read you here.
It was a real pleasure to meet you in person,
cc I'm glad I answered you about "french picnic" posting! And you thought it would be a quiet GTG! ;-)
What a pity I didn't take you to musée Magnin, I even asked the lady at the entrance if she had seen an American lady, all in black...
For next time then! And thanks again for the caps! My boys were very proud to wear them at school saying they were real American caps!
You wrote you saw a French movie, what was it? I went to see Brokeback mountain this afternoon and liked it.

gg écoute bien ton professeur et je veux un email tout en français quand tu rentres chez toi, promis?

I'm looking forward for your trip report girls!
