, Important !!!! Call Your Airlines. To Confirm!!

Boy, just went on-line to check on tomorrows' flight with continental.
there was no flight listed!
so, i called the airline, and our flight has been changed!!
We are now scheduled to fly out 4 hours earlier!!
Airline, of course, never called us.

since it is a 5 hr. drive for us, to the airport, am I glad I called ahead!

Question;
Now we do not have our original seat assignments.
Are we on an overbooked flight?
Will be be able to arrange that each of us sits with one of our children?
The airline, of course, is full of reassurances!

Help!
I need some calming and hand holding!
thanks.
And check your flights today!!

Airline websites can be very useful things. And it is always a good idea to check.

The question is whether it is an existing flight or just a time shifted flight with regard to your seats. In any case get to the airport EARLY -- I'd do 3 hours ahead rather than the standard 2. And Nancy -- have a grrrreeeeeat time

Nancy, I know just how you feel. Last October we were scheduled on a Continental flight to Denver. A couple of weeks before the flight, I was checking their websight and discovered that the return route no longer exsisted! I wonder if they would have called us. I have faith that they will make arrangements for the children to sit with one of you. Why don't you call the reservation number and make them aware of this, again? It is a good idea to recheck a couple of days before. Have a great trip.

Most of the airlines are posting pretty steep drops in travel loads, and all of them (Continental included) are rearranging flights/cancelling the lightly booked flights this summer. Nancy's right on with the trend and thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Nancy, glad you were on top of things! I am sooo upset with the unethical maneuverings of the airlines! They must be held accountable! This situation with the airlines, is just becoming ridiculous! Their customer "circus" sucks big time!
I wish I could make you feel better, but after my flight from hell last week, I am very down on airlines! *Prepare for all possible scenarios*, is my motto!
However, Nancy, Have the best time of your life! I will be thinking of you, and how much fun you will be having!
Bon Voyage! Judy

Nancy,

just one question. Did the airline have your phone number in the reservation? I always make sure that they have my home phone number and my phone number of where I will be staying before our return home. I have never had problems having Continental call me with changes. I booked a trip to Italy in November and since them there have been 2 changes in our flight times. I received calls both times.

If you booked through a travel agent a message comes through to them on their system that there has been a time/flight change and they should have called you.

Nancy is correct in emphasizing the importance of reconfirming a flight several days before departure!
Airlines frequently can change schedules depending on the season and business climate. Also aircraft configurations can change, ie, a 767 replacing a DC 10 on a particular flight.
Hundreds of thousands of airline passengers are being carried daily and it's understandable that some might be left out of the "communications loop".
Arriving at the terminal early is also good advice. It should give you a leg up on seat selection, if seats were not already chosen to your satisfaction.
To give credit where credit is due...
We are flying to Paris next week on American using USAir FF miles - USAir called us this past weekend to tell us our flight times have been changed on both legs.

They were also able to change my connecting flight to better accomodate our earlier arrival so we don;t need to spend 4 hours layover time in Chicago on the way home.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you!!! I took your advice and checked my flights for this week's trip to SanDiego, and sure enough, they changed the flight # on one leg of my trip and the time on another, and I leave on Saturday. I had not been planning on confirming the flights, and the Airlines has not notified me of any changes. Good thing I saw your posting!

Topping this cause it is soooo important!!
Yes, the airline has my phone #, but I think it is more a case of the customer having to do the work.
I am just glad I checked!
But, today HAS been a crazy day, cause I have 4 less hrs tomorrow.
thanks everyone.
We will have a BLAST!!
and some extra hrs in Italy.
and we will try to geththere earlier, it is just a 25o mile drive, and one can never count on road conditions!!
Think of us!
