Ile St-Louis in Paris

Does anyone know what's happened on the Rue St. Louis-en-I'lle? I've stayed at the Hotel Deux-Iles twice before - last in 1997. And now FAX responses to that hotel, Hotel St-Louis and Hotel de Jeu de Paume (all on the same street) are all "incorrect no. Please try your FAX again." Telephone calls to all 3 are: "This no. has been disconnected or is no longer in service." All 3 are listed in 'Fodor's Paris 2001'. Did some mega-commercial company buy the entire street? or what? I'm going to Paris again in Sept. and wanted so much to stay on "The Island" again. Any info will be so much appreciated. Thanks. Sally

Hi sally,
Don't know about the fax numbers, but I do know you can reserve any of the three through
Reserve the Best.com. They make the booking but the hotel responds directly to you. I have had excellent service thru this site.

www.reservethebest.com

I don't know why you are having troubles but if you find out, I'd love to know. My first trip to Paris, in 1997, was spent at the Hotel St. Louis on Rue Saint Louis-en-L'Ile. The island was a perfect spot for my introduction to that wonderful city.
I know the hotel was still operating in October 1998 because though I didn't stay there, I did make a quick nostalgia trip to the island. The hotel was open at that point.

I'd feel really bad if all the hotels on the street were lost in some black hole!

Lee

We were just there. All three hotels are open and heavily booked. It is indeed a pleasure to stay on the island.

cf. Elvira's reply: make sure you dial the correct international code, ie. the fax number for the Hotel des 2 Iles, from the U.S. is:
011-33-1 43 29 60 25
(the first 0 should not be dialed from abroad but is from anywhere in France). Courage, both hotels are still there!

Make sure you read the "Burned in Paris - Hotel Ile St Louis" thread before booking - a bad story which could completely spoil a trip if going in peak season!!!

Ck out the 'Rants & Raves' on Hotel St-Louis - there's also a reply to my msg, telling me to ck out another thread on this hotel. Sounds like things may have changed quite a bit - and I adore the island. I'm almost afraid to make a reservation at the Deux-Iles.
