Parkhill24 was put off Ferrara by the golden arches, and that is all he/she has to say about Ferrara.
It's a totally superficial way of judging a town and, moreover, he/she could have spent several days in Ferrara without seeing the golden arches.
And if the golden arches are his/her sole criterion, Rome is out of the qustion as well: There are golden arches on the Piazza della Rotonda facing the Pantheon and on the Piazza di Spagna.
The cathedral, the cathedral museum, the Castello Estense, the gallery, the Palazzo Schifanoia, and the Casa Romei are all interesting places to visit.
La Romantica, on the far side of the old city from the Castello Estense, is a very good restaurant, serving excellent cuisine of the Emilia-Romagna region, with particularly good tortelli alla zucca.
