ibis amsterdam city stopera
Any thoughts/experiences on the ibis amsterdam city stopera hotel? At the last minute I found out I will have to stay in Amsterdam for one night and this was one of the only modestly priced hotels I could find in the city. Since I will be traveling alone - I want to make sure it's safe and in a decent area (it seems to be from what I've read elsewhere).
Thanks!

Do you have an address for the hotel?
The Stopera is also known as the Stadhuis (city hall), so it might be located in the Waterlooplein area, which is not a bad area at all. The Muziektheater (opera house) is right next door.

I don't know the hotel, but the Stopera area is fine. Easy walking distance of all the sights, the Waterlooplein market on your doorstep, and not far from the Nieuwemarkt which is a nice square with pubs etc. Also the Waag is n the Nieuwemarkt. Also worth a visit is Brouwerij 't IJ - better beer than Heineken! http://www.brouwerijhetij.nl/
Also not far fron de Wallen - the red light district!

If you're taking public transportation from Centraal Station to the hotel, you can either take the #9 tram to the Mr.Visserplein / Muiderstraat stop, by the Joods Historical Museum. Or you can take the metro underground to the Waterlooplein stop.
Valkenburgerstraat is a fairly long street and could be a hike if #68 is on the other end of the street from the Waterlooplein, closer to Prins Hendrikkade. Robyn
