I am always tempted to purchase clothing from TS, but end up returning them most of the time. Their return policy is great however, but I found their materials are not the best. A purse I ordered had a seam come undone, a waterproof raincoat was not waterproof only water resistant, black tights pilled after a few wearings so I'm not a fan of this catalog company. I'm pleased to read all these other comments though for their experiences with this company.

Linda,
The next time you're shopping for undies, you may want to try Ex Official.
They dry within a couple of hours, no towel involved. I think they are more comfortable and last longer.

I also choose Chico's travelers products.
A black tank dress can be paired with a nice shawl for a concert (I'm a classical musician) and the trousers are almost as comfortable as pajamas for transatlantic flights. I was them in the basin, roll them in a towel and hang for fast drying.

Chico's also send $10 gift certificates for Christmas and birthdays.

Because I couldn't get the rainjacket from TravelSmith, I ended up just ordering the Large Nylon Healthy Back bag and a few different Tshirts

When I did a Google search for Microfiber raincoats that one from NZ came up and I fell in love! (even better than TS!!)

SeaUrchin, it CAN"T be the exact same one you saw ... I talked to Bernice (CEO) she hand sews these coats herself. ... and yes, I'm getting the hat (I ordered them) in Red/Royal.

$99 is NOT BAD for a hand made coat ... great shipping too! Only $15 to anywhere in the world(for as much as you want to order!) ... plus that AWESOME gaurantee.

I'm happy.

I'll post how I like it when I get it next week.

(I was just curious to see if it looked as nice to others as it did to me.)

skatterfly, yes, I WOULD like a gummi bear

I am looking at ExOfficio catalog and see that they have now clothes which puts off bugs and sun, trademark Buzoff. Does anybody owns this clothes? Is it as good as advertised?
We usually going to Europe two times a year so I do have European wardrobe, but we will be going to Hong Kong and Thailand in Oct and it will be hot there!

FromAtlanta, hmmm, I guess it isn't the same one then, but it looked just like it and was very well made too.

I think it is cute and practical for you, I am glad you found it and glad you bought it too. You will have to post a photo of yourself with the whole ensemble, singin' in the rain.

My raincoat came today!! I am so happy with it. It is even better than I thought! (I have NEVER heard of a coat that goes by your bust measurement and not your waist - but the fit is perfect!) The style and material make it the type you can wear casual or dressy (I mean, if you are going to the Opera and it is raining - you would not be embarrassed by this gorgeous coat)

Bernice (the CEO/Owner) has extended the sale ... I HIGHLY recommend taking a look.

Have to run to work...but need help.

I really wanted to buy all the travelsmith clothes but was very afraid to by online due to fit problems.

I FINALLY found a store about 1 hr away that had the right kind of clothes and spent more at once on clothes than everbefore. Great buys, stuff I will wear not just when I travel. (Travel Country.)

They did not have the skirts I wanted and I did order them from Travel Smith. (Skirts should not be a problem to fit.)

Anyway, the Travel Smith Rain Coat I really wanted is back ordered and I don't want to take a chance that it would not come in time.

I found a couple other possibilities but I am stuck on something...WATERPROOF vs. WATER RESISTANT (sp? in hurry, can't check )

I know the difference between the terms, just wondered if it would be something I should REALLY be concerned about? Some of the styles I like better are not fully waterPROOF.

What say? What vote?

PLMN, if you read my earlier posts you saw I also wanted to buy a coat from TravelSmith. I AM SO GLAD I DIDN'T! The 100% waterproof and extremely GORGEOUS raincoat I got from renovere.com is better than I could ever get anywhere else. (I am even so happy that it has been raining because I love wearing it!!)

BTW, I appologize to everyone who tried to warn me against TravelSmith when I was being so pigheaded. You guys were right - I was wrong. The tshirts I ordered had to go back. So expensive and I didn't think they looked nice at all. The coolmax shirt (which is supposed to be sweatproof etc.) looked like very poor quality. ... I learned my lesson about catalogues!!

(But I didn't mind ordering that coat online because Bernice promised me I would get ALL my money back if I sent it back.)

emtravel - I have the buzz off clothes. I bought them for a trip to Costa Rica. In fact, that is the only trip I bought clothes for. They were fine, but I think it is a waste. You can buy spray for your clothes to keep the bugs off, much more efficient.

All the stuff I recently bought from TravelSmith is just fine, although I won't know for certain until I wear it on our upcoming trip. But the fit is perfect.

For the guys, the stain resistant, wrinkle free cotton polos from Joseph A. Banks are awesome.

Did I ever mention how much I LOVE the Liz Claiborne line of wrinkle free and stain resistant? I was tempted to buy another blouse today (a gorgeous light blue.)

The best part is, it is only $65 - it lasts a long time (I have a blouse 2+ years old that still looks new), it is easy to return if need be (I only pay for gas-don't pay to ship it back) and don't have to pay for shipping it to me. ... and Liz Claiborne comes in my size!!

Dear FromAtlanta,

I looked at the renovere raincoat and thought about it. It doesn't seem to have the detail work I usually like in a coat. The one I liked from Travelsmith that is backordered is SO me. The renovere one looks very puffy, as if it will make me look fatter than I already am. Is it just the pictures that make it seem so?

To all you other helpful Fodorites, what about the WATERPROOF vs. WATER RESIST.? Have any of you worn RESIST. and wished you had the WATERPROOF?

I looked at the llbean possibilities. I like the TA 30794, but it specifies WATER RESISTANT.

The TK45967 is WATERPROOF and a great price, on sale.

But I'm not as happy with the style.

If I should have WATERPROOF for sure over RESISTANT I would compromise.

What say? I don't have much experience getting stuck for long periods in the rain. If we are out sightseeing and it rains all day or hard will the WATERPROOF REALLY be that much better a choice?
