OK, my silly frugal story: I was a penniless backpacking college student. I discovered that guidebooks in French were cheaper than the same one in English. I figured...I can manage with my French and do this. Well, problem was that I would read 'on the left you will see a beautiful ****** (some word I of course didn't know in French), etc..
Then there was the map (again non-english version cheaper)...I had a heck of a time finding Vienna. Even though I knew it was in Austria, all I could find was Wein...ok I figured it out. Have fun being frugal! You get a lot of good stories for free.

Please... more frugal stories in Vienna: I wanted to go see the famous synagogue, planning to attend Friday night services. It was awfully quiet when I arrived and people looked at me kind of funny and said 'you should come tomorrow night, we pray in the big sanctuary'. It took awhile till I figured out that it was Thursday and I had skipped a day out of my plans!
No wine. I was poor and had a fruit sandwich- a roll with figs that I bought in the open air market. memorable but not too tasty! but cheap.
The wine sounds better.
