If you could specify an area of Paris, I think it would help because Paris has 6 major train stations.
They are: Gare de l'Est, Gare du Nord, (which are near each other) Gare d'Austerlitz, Gare de Lyon, Gare St. Lazare, and Gare Montparnasse. The first two are in the northern part of the city, St. Lazare slighly northeast or center, Montparnasse is south of the Seine, while Gare de LYon and Gare d'Austerlitz are toward the eastern part of the city on opposite sides the Seine.
The budget travel book Let's Go Paris lists many hostels in Paris. My copy is a little out of date - 5 years. (And my experience is way out of date.)
I suggest you avoid the 15th and 16th and 20 Arrondissements because they are quite far from the center of the city.
Perhaps someone can make a suggestion based on more current information than what I have.

Michelle, that site lists so many hostels that without a map I doubt if you can tell where they are. Also, if it is the same site I looked at, it carries no quality rating.
I think the Let's Go Paris editorial staff actually does at least a cursory inspection of the hostels before including them in the book.
Afterall, its reputation depends on worthwhile recommendations and accurate descriptions.
