I had tears in my eyes when I first ...............

saw a fragile grandfather selling grilled bananas at Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand on the street for only 5 baht.

What's yours? (let's keep to travel experiences)

Bird: Since it was Amsterdam, I have to ask...was the zipper in question your own?

But, as for me, I got misty when I saw the Winged Victory for the first time. Don't know why, really, guess I had admired it in encyclopedia pictures as a boy, and then there it was...wow!

Also, in Florence, seeing Donatello's extraordinary Mary Magdalene. Very moving.

Robdaddy, me too. I was not expecting it and it took my breath away. (Winged Victory)

..stood before the Pieta.

But I broke down into a really unattractive snorting crying when I was told yes, they did have a seaview room at Hotel Argentina in Dubrovnik. I guess I was really tired.

Mine is sad. When I first saw a man die of a heart attack while dining in France. The poor wife looked so tragic that I think most of us in that room had tears in our eyes wishing we could help her somehow but she was quickly taken away and we were sent onto the terrace to finish our meal . Most who were not staying at the hotel left quickly.

Oh Cigalechanta that is so sad!
I guess when I saw the Pieta I became very moved, almost surreal really....

I remember the plane descending towards heathrow when I was 21 on my first European trip.. I even remember the song playing on my headphone set as we descended..... I did have tears in my eyes, I could not beleive how lucky I was to be there!!!

The bad: When I had real hindu food at a birthday party. It was so hot that my eyes watered and my ears popped. Sadly, the water had been boiled over kerosene and tasted like it!

The good: Watching the sunrise over the Otago Peninsula near Dunedin, New Zealand.

When I arrived at the American Cemetery in Normandy and saw the MANY white Gravestones. You truly then realize what the war really meant. Mike

First time in Rome, walking into the Pantheon and thinking, "this was here when the apostles came to Rome; when Paul was imprisoned and wrote to the Philippians; and quite possibly when Jesus walked the earth". I thought of the times I'd watched Ben Hur; what Rome represented and thought, "this is real".
