I didn't know this strikes in Italy site exisited

Today I found a ton of new (to me anyway)information on the SlowTrav (Italy) web site. I printed out the ordering food dilaouge (sp?) and more.

While hunting around I found this link:

http://www.seekitaly.com/news/from_roma.html#alerts

I was all set to post a thread about it but I decided to see if others here already knew about it. Of COURSE ya'll know about it, duh. Except I guess it is mentioned in threads I haven't been reading.

So for those out there that don't know about it here you are.

As it stands, if Delta and Alitalia don't go out of business before my trip there is always the chance an Alitalia strike could happen

There is an Alitalia strike scheduled for Oct 15 to last 24 hrs. We are scheduled to depart Italy on Oct 17. By the skin of the teeth.

Hmm, I think I saw something about some train stuff also I need to check on.

I wonder if when you book tickets the reservationist is supposed to tell you if you are trying to book tickets on the day of a strike and they won't take the reservation for that time period?

Thanks for the link. I did notice that for those arriving on the 15th of September, there's a transportation strike (rail, bus, tram, subway). May want to plan on taxi from the airport into Rome. Will be a problem if taking the train from Rome onward.

I did notice the Alitalia personnel strike on the 17th is cancelled.

The site is all well and good, but the website managers often go on strike. But then the strike organizers often go on strike and the scabs also go on strike. Does anybody in France and Italy not go on strike?

With all the strikes, terror, financial default, weather disasters, etc. it's a wonder anyone can get to go on vacation and get back on time, in one piece.

For those leaving for Italy this week, the site reports that on September 15th 2004 there will be a 24 hours nationwide strike of local public transportation (buses, tramways, subways and some local trains).

The Alitalia strike scheduled for September 17th 2004 has been cancelled.
