Rome: Vllla Borghese. Hope you get a great tour guide--makes all the difference.
After, if you are a movie buff, walk down Via Veneto and look for the plaque to Federico Fellini.

Fontana di Trevi at night with all the other excited tourists--great fun.i Toss a coin in the fountain, then head to San Crispino, kind of across the street (as you fact the fountain, it's off to your right) for IMHO the best gelato in the world!!!

Oh, shut me up, Just thinking of all the wonderful places you'll see, Jill. Can't pick just one or two favs!!!

I just bought the most comfortable shoes and I so excited to wear them in Europe. They feel like I am walking on air and they are stylish which is so hard to find with these comfort walking shoes. They are made by Naot.

Naot shoes are the best. They are what I have worn on our two trips to Italy. They will serve you well.

One other thing - you may just be in time to scoop up the September editions of local visitor publications, such as these....

Some good news, I hope.... the terrible heat seems to have broken and, down this way at least, it been pleasantly summerish again... hot in the sun, cool in the shade!

Hi Jill!

My boyfriend and I just got back from our Italian trip. We went to all of the places you listed, and as far as I can see you have gotten many good travel tips.

I have to agree with the people that recommended San Gimignano. Beautiful place in Tuscany! And you have to try the ice cream/gelato from a place there (don't remember what it was called) who have won the title "Best ice-cream in the world" or something like that. It is easy to spot since it's always a line to go inside. I wish I could go back once more for the ice cream!

I hope you have a wonderful trip! We sure did!

Oh, one more thing, rent a bicycle in Florence. Great way to see the city

Rome - a leisurely walk in the centre of Rome, walking to Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, having a gelato in the Fontana dei Trevi Square, shopping or window-shopping in Via Condotti and Via del Corso, and enjoying the feel of Rome by stopping coffee or lunch or dinner with outdoor seating in the heart of Rome.

I am always amazed and can never get enough of the rich green rolling hills of Tuscany (or Umbria). I feel I am in heaven when I am being served a lovely Tuscan home-made meal outdoors at a hilltop restaurant, agriturismo, B&B, whaterver, looking down and around this beautiful scenary on a sunny day. Also, a visit to amazing cities and towns like Florence, Siena, Pisa,San Gimignano, etc.

Positano and surroundings - A drive along the Amalfi coast to take in the lovely views, or better still, a stop at a good restaurant where I would be served plenty of fish dishes at a cliff-edge restaurant like Locanda del Fiordo in Furore or Locanda Costa Diva in Praiano, or in a restaurant down the harbour in Sorrento (where the hydrofoil to Capri leaves) with the spectacular view of the Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples), or a meal in one of the restaurants on the mountain village of Montepertuso, enjoying a great view of Positano and coast below, or a visit to the main square in Amalfi town and its beautiful church, or a visit to Pompeii, or a boat ride along the Amalfi coast with a stop at a beach restaurant.
