Syl,
When are you going? We had the same dilemma. We’ll arrive in Hvar on Sat, Sept 9 and leave on Tue the 12th on the Jad ferry. We decided to take the ferry back to Split and drive down to Dubrovnik. We will skip Korkula this trip but we love coastal drives, so we don’t want to miss that.
There’s a 7:30 ferry to Split, so if we can make that, we can spend the day on the Makarska Riviera and be in Dubrovnik by evening and drop the car then.

xyz99,
We've both been parallel posting for a number of months, so answers you're getting have been helpful with my plans. We're meeting up with lowcountryislander on Sept.27 in Dubrovnik. I do remember that you're leaving Europe when we arrive. Didn't you say that you'll pass me in the air? We arrive in Ljubljana on Sept.12 & leave from Dub. to London on Sept.30 (home on Oct.1).Keep posting. By the way, on the Virtual Tourist site, someone suggested that we drive the coastal route (stopping at Omis, etc.) to Ston, drive up the peninsula to Omeric where a 15 minute ferry takes passengers across the waterway to Korkula. If I only had an extra day....

Hi Syl,
Yes, I guess we’ll pass you in the air We’ll arrive in Croatia on the 2nd in Zagreb and leave from Dubrovnik on the 17th. Sounds like enough time, but I found out it’s not… We had to skip Zadar, Trogir, Korkula, and a lot of other places. But we’ll see Plitvice Lakes, Istria, Hvar and Dubrovnik (hopefully with a day trip to Montenegro). I’m sure we’ll love Croatia – everything is booked now and the wait is killing me…
The only thing I still need to research is the drive from Split to Dubrovnik – where to stop, what to see and what to save for the next time.
Keep posting. I am getting great ideas and advice from this board.

I just spoke to someone in Zagreb on Skype who told me to go the ferry route from Stari Grad to Korkula (pronounced, according to him,Korchula)& south to Dubrovnik from there via Orebic. He loves Korkula & feels that it's preferable over Omis, Makarska. This confirms our decision. Sorry xyz99 to confuse you even more.

Syl,
Another option is not confusing at all, thanks a lot. There is a ferry from Stari Grad to Korkula at 9 am (a lot better than 7:30, I have to admit) and getting there at 12 pm.
Then, the ferry from Korkula to Orebic runs 18 times a day and it only takes 15 min. Here’s a link http://www.korculainfo.com/ferries/o...cula-ferry.htm
Then, based on viamichelin, driving from Orebic to Dubrovnik would take less than 2 hours.
But because the Stari Grad to Korkula ferry is 3 hrs, this option leaves us less time to explore. I would love to see Peljesac Peninsula and we have 4 full days in Dubrovnik, so I think we’ll stick to our original plan to take the ferry back to Split and drive from there.
Out of 4 days in Dubrovnik, we’ll probably take a tour with Atlas to Montenegro and another day visit Peljesac Peninsula (either with an Atlas tour or we’ll rent a car for the day and do it ourselves).
Let me know what you decide to do.

As we'll be doing the peninsula after Korkula, it looks like we're missing out on the coast drive (as I said). As per Montenegro & Mljet, we're staying at a sobe & the owner will give us a private tour. However, at this time, I'm not sure about spending a day going to Montenegro.I've heard mixed reviews. We may want to see Lokrum & Cavtat as well. Keep in touch.
