Human Towers in Tarragona, Spain

I hope to witness the 2018 Human Towers competition in Tarragona this September 25-October 2.
Does anyone know how to get tickets to the final weekend competitions?
Have you attended any of the other events during the week-long festival?
Also, can you give advice on whether to stay in Tarragona that weekend or commute from Barcelona?
Thank you.

I can't answer your questions, but want to say that the seeing castellers in action is awesome -- enjoy!

Most tickets for the final events are reserved for the teams and their families. I know it’s tought, but but there is only so much room. That’s how it goes, although there is a possibility you can get tickets. it’s difficult. Tickets are released online a day or so before the compilation, so if you are fast enought, you might score some. Otherwise just go and enjoy the day.

We loved staying 2 nights in Tarragona--not during any sort of festival and we didn't see the tower feat, but there's plenty of interesting things--lots of Roman sites, lovely lanes and markets, the Mediterranean right there!--Lovely

Are you confusing the Concurs de Castells with the Santa Tecla festival? They are different. The Concurs does not have any competitions during the week. Santa Tecla has castells all week long.

Santa Tecla is September 14 or 15 to the 24th with the big days being the 23rd and 24th for the castells. There are no tickets, the castells are built in front of the cathedral and in Placa de la Font.

For the Concurs, I went in 2016 on the final day (Sunday.) This is the day that is hard to get tickets for. The dates you have posted for 2018 are incorrect. The final weekend will be the first weekend of October, so the 6th and 7th. The weekend before will be the first day of the competition, in Torredembarra (free.) If things are the same for 2018 as they have been for the past few years, there are competitions in Tarragona on Saturday late afternoon/evening and on Sunday starting in the morning. Saturday tickets are not difficult to get, in 2014 and 2016 they had tickets available almost up until the day of the competition. So you could do that day and not worry too much about getting a ticket.

For Sunday, its more complicated. There are a few thousand tickets but they go FAST. Tickets go on sale some months before (in 2016 it was July) and the date of sale is announced a week or so before. I checked every day for weeks.. and got up at 1am California time to be at my computer when they went on sale at 10am Spain time. You can find information on the link that Robert posted above.

I got tickets, but they were sold out in six minutes. If I had not managed to get Sunday I would have gone on Saturday. It is worth it to get up at 1am, I can tell you that. I was there for seven hours and it was awesome.

I would stay in Tarragona for sure. I will be there again this year, so if you are interested I will try to post here when the sale date goes up.
