There's an airport in Pula, at the south end of the Istrian peninsula. You could fly to Split and then home from there. Split has quite a large airport. Or fly from Pula to Zagreb.
If you need to spend a night near the Split airport, Trogir, a cute little town and a UN World Heritage Site is nearby. And of course Split itself, also a World Heritage Site.
