How to pack for Greece in July?

Hello fellow travelers! I will be travelling to Greece in early July for my two-week honeymoon. I was wondering if any experts have suggestions on packing. Is it necessary to bring "fancy" clothes or are sandles and shorts allowed in most places?

We are trying to figure out the most convenient way as far as weight and number of pieces to put our stuff together.

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Well, when we went to Italy in July it was HOT. I would suggest tanks and skirts. Shorts aren't really popular over there unless you are a tourist. The second time I went back I brought only skirts, and I was very comfortable. Now places like the Vatican don't let you in wihtout your shoulders covered so that is somethign to consider as well. Sorry I can't comment specifically on Greece, but the weather is comparable.

I also wore comfortable walking sandals (Eccos or something of that sort) I did bring tennis shoes, but with the heat I would go for the sandals. Try and stay away from leather too-in the heat=blisters

BTW, Congratulations!

I would definitely bring a nice sundress or skirt or a pair of capris with a fancy top or two, but other than that, shorts and sandals or the above are all fine.

My female hot weather packing list goes something like this:

2 bathing suits
2 sarongs
1 flipflops (also use as slippers)
2 sandals
1 sneakers
2 long loose shorts
2 capri pants
2 skirt or sundress (optional)
3 nice fitting cotton t-shirts
2 sleeveless button up blouse
3 tank tops
1 lightweight bathrobe
undies, a few socks, etc.

While I generally thought that the tourist dress in Greece was a bit more casual than in Italy, I suppose it would also depend on where you were going and what you were doing - i.e. are you spending much time at the beaches, or in the city?

We spent time in Crete, Athens and Delphi last June and it was in the middle of a heat wave - really hot. Shorts were a very common sight in the day, people usually dressed less casually in the evening.

It will be hot so any light summer clothes will do. Comfy shoes are must. A few dressy pieces should suffice for dinners out...etc.

Make sure to also bring a light jacket because it gets a little chilly at night in Greece.
