How to get to Delphi from Athens?

I am planning a trip to Greece next May. I will be spending my time in Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, and Paros, but I would like to go on a day trip to Delphi while I am in Athens? Is that possible, and if so, as a solo traveller how would you suggest that I do this? PS - I have chosen a day trip to Delphi over Olympia, do you agree with the choice?

Dawn,

I would recommend taking one of the overnight tours available. That way you can spend a night in Delphi and see the sites after all the tourists have gone home. It will be well worth your time. Also, on a tour you will meet other people and feel less uncomfortable about being alone.

Personally, I think Delphi is a wonderful choice.

Hi Dawn,

Delphi is the best choice. A day visit is hard to manage unless you rent a car and start out very early. Try to do an overnight. Have fun.

Sue

Dawn

You could also take an organised coach tour to Delphi. Pick up at your hotel, 8am returning there at 6pm. Details at:

http://www.infohub.com/TRAVEL/SIT/sit_pages/2436.html
We are usually independent travelers, and have gone to lots of places on our own, shunning tours. However, we happened to take a one-day coach tour from Athens to Delphi, and it was excellent. It also had a stop in Corinth, so we got two for one, which we would not have been able to do if we had gone solo. Also, some of the companies have very qualifie guides, familiar with the sites and well versed in mythology. The lady we had was able to point out all sorts of things we probably would have missed on our own, like the Temple for Livia, of "I, Claudius" fame.

Even for a solo traveler, I think it is really good.

I did that in a day trip and thought it was very easy and reasonable--perhaps I missed something but there wasn't that much left at Delphi so I don't know why you'd need more than one day. I don't know the name of the company, but I just signed up for a std bus tour company, it was an easy day trip. I might have done it through the hotel, they usually have info on stuff like that. Haven't been to Olympia so can't compare.

definitely choose Delphi over Olympia! the point made by Dave is a very good one. For some reason I find the Guides here are the most knowledgable I've come across and tours are always fascinating.Corinth is a must as well!
