how to check flight capacity
A friend has given me a non-revenue pass on Lufthansa. I understand I can be bumped if the flight is oversold. How do I choose light capacity days to avoid this "adventure?"

Pilgrim,
Sounds like you fly standby on that pass. Generally Monday thru Thursday are lighter travel days than Friday through Sunday. You might also want to call Lufthansa prior to departure and ask them how full the flights are and pick one that isn't so full....assuming you can just show up with this pass or make reservations on short notice???

pilgrim......Sunds like you have a "buddy" pass and it doesnt soud like your friend will be accompanying you.Hate to say it, but that could be a very grim situation for you."Buddy Passes" are the least significant category of non-revenue passes, the lowest on the totem pole. You can be bumped and the flight could have 25 seats available, with 30 standby's ahead of you.I did it myself, with my buddy...We were stuck for 3 days!!My best advice would be to pick a week, call the reservations and tell them what type of pass you have. They might ask for something "technical" like is it a 3-K or whatever. They may or may not tell you which day looks best.I know this is negative, but with my own personal experience what seemed like a nice "gift" turned out to be a disaster.Others may have had more positive experiences but I'm just relating mine.It will indeed be an adventure, but Best of Luck!

pilgrim...Me again...I did some further investigation....This is from a friend who works for Lufthansa. The first thing that has to happen is that you must "list" yourself for the flight that you want. Now, this is where you have to go back to the person who gave you the pass. They need to log on to the website...www.flyzed.com....This is a website for all airline employees worldwide to accomplish the "listing".What listing does is tell the airline that you will be standing by for that particular flight. It allows the airline to be sure to load enough meals so that standbys can be served.Makes sense, right? So your friend may need to go to the interline person on his staff and get a user-id and password. The first thing the gate agent will do is determine if you listed yourself for the flight you want to be on.It really isn't a complicated procedure, but your friend needs to help you out beacuse he is the airline person.I hope this helps and again good luck! Stephen,
Thanks for your assistance. I am used to going to Europe on business or on vacation, but use Frequent Flyer awards or purchase tickets. This is a new (free)way to get there, but I want to get home, too!
Thanks a million.
